Worland Livestock Auction has new owners

Worland – Jim Newby and Sidney, Montana-based Prewitt and Company are the new owners of Worland Livestock Auction in Worland.
    “Our first sale is Thursday,” said Newby during a March 18 interview with the Roundup. They were expecting 1,700 head for the sale.
    Newby, who just moved to the area from Lewistown, Mont., said he was raised on a cow-calf ranch. “I’ve been order buying for 15 years, the last 10 years as an order buyer for Prewitt and Company.” Prewitt, said Newby, has been in the order buying business for over 30 years. “We order buy plus we feed a lot of cattle and run quite a few yearlings.”
    “I want to make it a place where people want to market their cattle,” said Newby. Responding to what he called local concerns he said, “We’ll darn sure have market protection.”
    The barn will host a sale every Thursday until some time in May when they’ll scale back to every other week. A horse sale will continue to take place the first Saturday of every month. “Terry Warnecke is going to manage the horse sales,” said Newby.
    “Stop by and visit us,” invites Newby. “We have a lot of people to meet. We know quite a few ranchers having done business in this area over the years.”
    Mid-March the Livestock Marketing Association welcomed the salebarn as a new member.
