Wyoming Beef Cattle Improvement Association Bull Test and Sale celebrates 29 years
This year marks the 29th Annual Wyoming Beef Cattle Improvement Association (WBCIA) Bull Test and Sale. There is a really good selection of bulls this year, and the sale should provide buyers with plenty of options to find the bull to fit their needs.
This year’s group of bulls consigned to the 2013-14 WBCIA Bull Test were weighed off test Feb 25. The consigners to the sale have picked the top bulls from their respective herds to participate in the test. The top 70 percent of bulls, 113 bulls this year, from the test are eligible for the sale on April 5 at the Pingetzer sale facility.
The WBCIA Bull Test is located at the Pingetzer Bull and Heifer Development Center near Shoshoni. In addition to our traditional consignors, we are seeing some new participation and some great consigned bulls. We would encourage everyone to stop by the test and take a look at this year’s consignment.
The feed program changed this year to reflect the desired bull condition of the buyers while expressing the potential of the bulls on test. Therefore, this year’s group of bulls finished the 120 day test at 2.9 pounds per day, with an average of 2.72 WDA, which is a little lower than previous years.
However, this year’s set of bulls is the healthiest, soundest and most fertile set of bulls that have been on test.
Bulls available for purchase in this years sale include 82 registered Angus, 29 registered Red Angus and two commercial Angus bulls.
Group performance over the 120 day test included 2.82 pounds per day for registered Angus and 3.08 for registered Red Angus.
The top gaining bull on test this year was lot 204, a registered Angus bull sired by GAR/BBAR New Way 8870 and consigned by Pingetzer’s Six Iron Ranch of Shoshoni. He has EPDs of BW: +0.5, WW: +55, YW: +94, M: +29, ADG: 143 and WDA: 100.

The top average daily gain (ADG) sire group was lots 112, 132 and 133 sired by MC Dimensional Design 129X and consigned by Klein Angus of Wheatland.
All bulls have been ear-notched and have been found to be PI negative (PIN) for BVD. Also, all the bulls that qualify for the sale will have passed a Breeding Soundness Exam.
Ultrasound information is included in this year’s catalog and will be available on a supplemental sheet the day of the sale. PAP testing has also be performed on the bulls qualifying for this year’s sale, with the results available the day of the sale.
Please stop by the Pingetzer Bull and Heifer Development Center any time to evaluate the bulls prior to the sale. If you are interested in a particular bull, contact us and we will try to answer any questions that you have or put you in contact with the breeder.
