Top of the show – Peterson hits grand champion mark at Wyo State Fair
Douglas – Six days of livestock shows at the Wyoming State Fair in Douglas brought big rewards for many Wyoming youth, including Hayden Peterson of Buffalo, who showed the grand champion market beef during the event.
Peterson, the son of Lisa and Donnie, has been showing beef cattle for six years and says, “Our family runs cattle, so I’ve always been around them. My sister started showing, so I picked it up from her.”
“Winning grand champion at the Wyoming State Fair is crazy,” he adds. “My sister won grand champion a few years ago, and when she stopped showing, everything fell onto me and my brother. When I won this year, it showed that I’m on the same level and can compete with her.”
Peterson plans to continue showing in the future and hopes to raise another grand champion animal in the future.
“I hope to continue doing well,” he says.
Youth from across Wyoming brought their livestock – including goats, sheep, pigs, cattle, chickens and rabbits, to the Wyoming State Fair to exhibit their progress toward raising high-quality breeding and market animals.
