Gelbvieh bulls represented the breed well during 2020 Midland Bull Test

Lots 1100 through 1136 represented the Gelbvieh breed well during the Midland Bull Test. These bulls were split into two groups – Group 1 Gelbvieh Bulls and Group 1 Gelbvieh Fall Bulls. They will sell April 2 in Columbus, Mont.

The Group 1 Gelbvieh bulls had an average daily gain (ADG) of 3.07 and an average weight per day of gain (WDA) of 3.01. The Gelbvieh fall bulls had an average ADG of 2.94 and an average WDA of 2.77. The leaders in ADG, WDA, Eff and MBT of each group are listed below. 

Group 1 ADG

            The Group 1 Gelbvieh ADG leaders were led by lot 1112. This bull posted an ADG of 3.57 and a WDA of 3.32. He has EPDs of BW +1.4, WW +70, M +17, YW +101, RFI -0.04, Eff 109 and MBT 113. Lot 1112 was sired by MDR Gallagher Rule 3020A and was consigned by Dobson Ranch of Kaw City, Okla. 

            Three bulls tied for the second-highest ADG of 3.24 in this category.

One of those bulls was lot 1123. He was sired by CCRO Carolina Exclusive 1230Y and consigned by Sheridan Ranch of Almo, Idaho. He had a WDA of 3.26 and EPDs of BW +2.3, WW +66, M +18, YW +102, RFI 0.20, Eff 102 and MBT 107. 

            Lot 1121, also consigned by Sheridan Ranch of Almo, Idaho, was in the three-way tie. This bull was sired by DCSF Post Rock Super Track 76B1 ET and had a WDA of 3.16. His EPDs are BW +0.7, WW +58, M +19, YW +84, RFI 0.24, Eff 112 and MBT 108. 

            The third bull tieing for second place was lot 1104 of the White Buffalo Ranch in Falcon, Mo. This bull had a WDA of 3.25 and EPDs of BW +0.2, WW +59, M +15, YW +85, RFI -0.24 and Eff 104. He was sired by Hart Efficient 125A41.

            Coming in with the third-highest ADG of 3.19 was lot 1122. This bull was consigned by Sheridan Ranch of Almo, Idaho and a son of GAR Sure Fire. He had a WDA of 3.04 and EPDs of BW -1.7, WW +68, M +22, YW +108, RFI -0.04, Eff 114 and MBT 109. 

Group 1 WDA

            Lot 1112, sired by MDR Gallagher Rule 3020A and consigned by Dobson Ranch of Kaw City, Okla., also had the highest WDA of 3.32. He had an ADG of 3.57 and EPDs of BW +1.4, WW +70, M +17, YW +101, RFI -0.04, Eff 109 and MBT 113.

            Lot 1123 also pulled into the second position for the Group 1 WDA leaders with a WDA of 3.26. Lot 1123 had an ADG of 3.24 and EPDs of BW +2.3, WW +66, M +18, YW +102, RFI 0.20, Eff 102 and MBT 107. He was sired by CCRO Carolina Exclusive and consigned by Sheridan Ranch of Almo, Idaho.

            In the third position was lot 1104, sired by HFGC Hart Efficient 125A41 and consigned by White Buffalo Ranch of Falcon, Mo. with a WDA of 3.25. This bull had an ADG of 3.24 and EPDs of BW 0.2, WW 59, M 15, YW 85, RFI -0.24 and Eff 104. 

Group 1 Eff 

HC Cattle Company of Columbus, Mont. brought the leading bull in this category, lot 1106, with an Eff of 136. This bull was sired by FMGF Blue’s Impact 001X and had an ADG of 3.15 as well as a WDA of 3.07. His EPDs are BW -2.0, WW +56, M +26, YW +83, RFI -2.51 and MBT 113.

Next is lot 1129 of Hedrick Ranch in ­­­­Northwood, N.D. with an Eff of 120. This bull had an ADG of 2.90 and WDA of 2.84. His EPDs are BW -1.2, WW +67, M +15, YW +94, RFI -0.93 and MBT 106. He is the son of DDGR Route 66E ET. 

In third was Sheridan Ranch’s lot 1120 with an Eff of 119. This bull is the son of DCSF Post Rock Super Track 768 1 ET and had an ADG of 3.03 as well as a WDA of 2.81. His EPDs are BW -0.3, WW +56, M +16, YW +77, RFI -0.6 and MBT 106. 

Group 1 MBT

            Lots 1106 and 1112 tied for the first place position in this category with an MBT of 113.

            Lot 1106 was brought by HC Cattle Company of Columbus, Mont. and sired by FMGF Blue’s Impact 001X. This bull had an ADG of 3.15 and WDA of 3.07. His EPDs are BW -2.0, WW +56, M +26, YW +83, RFI -2.51 and Eff 136. 

            Lot 1112 of Dobson Ranch in Kaw City, Okla. had an ADG of 3.57 and a WDA of 3.32. He was sired by MDR Gallagher Rule 3020A and has EPDs of BW +1.4, WW +70, M +17, YW +101, RFI -0.04, Eff 109 and MBT 113.

            Pulling in the second place position was lot 1122 with an MBT of 109. This bull was consigned by Sheridan Ranch of Almo, Idaho and a son of GAR Sure Fire. He had an ADG of 3.19 and WDA of 3.04. His EPDs are BW -1.7, WW +68, M +22, YW +108, RFI -0.04 and Eff 114.

            Rounding out the top three MBT Group 1 Gelbviehs was lot 1121 with an MBT of 108. He was also consigned by Sheridan Ranch of Almo, Idaho. This bull was sired by DCSF Post Rock Super Track 76B1 ET and had an ADG of 3.24 and WDA of 3.16. His EPDs are BW +0.7, WW +58, M +19, YW +84, RFI 0.24 and Eff 112. 

Group 1 Fall Bulls ADG

            White Buffalo Ranch of Falcon, Mo. consigned both Gelbvieh fall bulls ADG leaders. 

Lot 1100 was the ADG leader with an ADG of 2.98. He was sired by JRI Pat 213C4K, had a WDA of 2.75 and EPDs of BW -0.3, WW +52, M +16, YW +74 and MBT 105. 

Lot 1101 had the second-highest ADG of 2.90. His WDA was 2.79 and his EPDs are BW +0.4, WW +56, M +16, YW +79 and MBT 106. Lot 1101 is the son of JRI Pat 213C4K. 

Group 1 Fall Bulls WDA

            White Buffalo Ranch of Falcon, Mo. also consigned the leading Group 1 Gelbvieh fall bulls’ WDA leaders. 

Lot 1101 had the highest WDA of 2.79. He was sired by JRI Pat 213C4K and had an ADG of 2.90 as well as EPDs of BW +0.4, WW +56, M +16, YW +79 and MBT 106.

In second was lot 1100, also sired by JRI Pat 213C4K, with a WDA of 2.75. This bull had an ADG of 2.98 and EPDs of BW -0.3, WW +52, M +16, YW +74 and MBT 105.

Group 1 Fall Bulls MBT

            Again, White Buffalo Ranch of Falcon, Mo. brought the top two Gelbvieh fall MBT bulls. Both bulls were sired by JRI Pat 213C4K.

            Lot 1101 came in first with an MBT of 106. He had an ADG of 2.90, a WDA of 2.79 and EPDs of BW +0.4, WW +56, M +16 and YW +79.

            Lot 1100 followed close behind with an MBT of 105. This bull had an ADG of 2.98 and EPDs of BW -0.3, WW +52, M +16 and YW +74.

Champion Sire Group – MBT Index

            The Champion Gelbvieh Sire Group, based on MBT Index were lots 118, 1120 and 1121, consigned by Sheridan Ranch of Almo, Idaho. The group was sired by DCFS Post Rock Super Track 76B1 ET and posted an average MBT Index of 104. 

            In second place were lots 1129, 1130 and 1134, consigned by Hedrock Ranch of Northwood, N.D. The group was sired by DDGR Route 66E ET and posted an average MBT Index of 103.

World Champion Pen of Three

            Sheridan Ranch of Almo, Idaho consigned the World Champion Pen of Three Gelbvieh bulls with lots 1121, 1122 and 1123. The average MBT Index of the group was 108. 

            In a close second, with an average MBT Index of 107.66 were lots 1110, 1112 and 1116. The group was consigned by Dobson Ranch of Kaw City, Okla.
