Wyoming producers see success at Black Hills Stock Show
The Black Hills Stock Show (BHSS) held in Rapid City, S.D. attracts over 330,000 visitors and exhibitors from a 13-state region for 10 days of livestock shows, rodeos and other Western-influenced entertainment.
During the event, 10 breeds of cattle are exhibited and sold, and this year, several Wyoming producers brought home champion honors.
Angus
Two Wyoming operations were crowned during the Angus show at BHSS.
T3 Angus, LLC of Beulah exhibited the Grand Champion Angus Bull, while S&R Angus of Weston had the Reserve Champion Angus Bull.
S&R Angus also had the Reserve Champion Angus Female, following a heifer exhibited by Payton and Harper Scott of Gordon, Neb. in the champion slot.
Charolais
PGC Cattle of Pipestone, Minn. made an impressive showing during the BHSS Charolais Show, taking home honors with the Grand Champion Charolais Bull and the Grand Champion Charolais Female, which later went on to win BHSS Supreme Champion Female.
CK Cattle of Highmore, S.D. pulled into the reserve-champion slot during the bull show, and Lara Johnson of Fort Collins, Colo. had the Reserve Champion Charolais Female.
Hereford
In the BHSS Hereford Bull Show, Kegley Farms of Burlington, Wis. took home champion honors, followed by Freking Cattle of Alpha, Minn. with the reserve champion.
New Trend Cattle Company of Boley, Okla. exhibited the Grand Champion Hereford Female and Cally Kindred of Oral, S.D. had the reserve champion.
Shorthorn
Warner Ranch of Pavillion brought champion honors home to Wyoming with their Grand Champion Shorthorn Bull, followed by a bull exhibited by Jerry and Katie West of Harrisburg, Neb. in reserve.
The grand champion female was exhibited by Vogel Shorthorn Farm of Rogers, N.D., and Osterman Shorthorns of Conde, S.D. had the Reserve Champion Shorthorn Female.
Red Angus
Minnesota producers swept the BHSS Red Angus Show.
Royal Beef Genetics of Starbuck, Minn. exhibited the Grand Champion Red Angus Bull, followed in reserve by BJ Farms of Henning, Minn.
BJ Farms also took home honors with the Grand Champion Red Angus Female, while Folie Farms of Clarks Grove, Minn. was crowned reserve.
Gelbvieh
During the Gelbvieh show at BHSS, Volek Ranch of Highmore, S.D. topped the podium. This bull later went on to win BHSS Supreme Champion Bull.
Thunder Struck Cattle Company of Humboldt, S.D. had the Reserve Champion Gelbvieh Bull and the Reserve Champion Gelbvieh Female, following a heifer exhibited by September Farms of Franklin, Neb. in the champion slot.
Limousin
Pukwana, S.D. operation Peterson’s L7 Bar Limousin earned top honors during the BHSS Limousin Show with the Grand Champion Limousin Bull, followed by Wulf Cattle of Morris, Minn. with the Reserve Champion Limousin Bull.
In the female show, Mill Road Limousin of Knapp, Wis. exhibited the grand champion and Luden’s Family Limousin of Viborg, S.D. had the reserve champion.
Maine-Anjou
Midwest producers brought the heat during the Maine-Anjou Show in Rapid City, S.D.
A bull exhibited by Koo’s Kattle Kompany and Renee Grimm of Audubon, Iowa received the “Grand Champion Slap,” followed by Eastview Maines of Jasper, Minn. in the reserve-champion slot.
Fellow Iowa operation Dolieslager Show Cattle of Down, Iowa took home top honors in the Main-Anjou Female Show, while Drew and Dana Dennert of Columbia, S.D. had the reserve champion.
Chi-influenced
Hometown South Dakota producers swept the Chi-Influence Show.
In the grand-champion slot was a bull co-owned by Beckett Ranch of Miller, S.D. and Justin Holt of Aberdeen, S.D., followed by Doyle and Lorie DeJong’s bull of Box Elder, S.D. in reserve.
Justin Holt topped the podium again with the Grand Champion Chi-Influence Female, while Charlee Holt of Aberdeen, S.D. exhibited the reserve champion.
Simmental
To wrap up the BHSS breed shows, Freking Cattle made the leaderboard for a second time with the Grand Champion Simmental Bull, and Hennessy Show Cattle of Des Lacs, N.D. exhibited the reserve champion.
Holt Cattle Company of Mina, S.D. took home top honors with the Grand Champion Simmental Female, followed by CK Cattle in the reserve-champion slot.
